The Making of Herman Faust
A Checkpoint, Berlin Detective Series Novella (the Prequel)

When the walls come tumbling down…

Herman Faust is the no-nonsense Direktor of the LKA (The LandesKriminalamt, similar to the American FBI) and long-time friend of Kommissar Joseph Heinz. His career spans thirty years, and he is now on the cusp of retirement. Although usually cool and in control, a man of dry wit, it wasn't always so for Faust. With experience, came wisdom. Hard won wisdom for which he paid a high price.

In 1988, two years out of the police academy, Faust arrests a man for smuggling his own sister out of the East and into West Berlin. After bringing them in for questioning, the man disappears, the woman is found inside her holding cell…dead, and the American CIA wants answers! As clues come to light linking his superior to the woman, Faust begins receiving anonymous calls that threaten to end not only his budding career, but his life. The stability of West Berlin is at risk, democracy is losing, and if Faust fails to solve the case, it will be war! This is his story. This is the making of Herman Faust.

Checkpoint Author Visits The Faust Hotel

There's quite a lot of history to be found in the small towns outside of San Antonio. One of these gems happens to be The Faust Hotel & Brewing Company located just 15 minutes from my house, right up I35 North, in the town of New Braunfels, Texas.

Mondays are usually so dull, but my friend Carmen was off work, and we decided to head on over to The Faust for dinner. I found it online when checking for good places to scarf down some German food, and when I saw the name of it, I knew we had to go there. As many of you know, one of my engaging Checkpoint series characters shares the same last name, Herman Faust, the dry-witted Direktor of the Landeskriminalamt (LKA). I felt it was a sign, one that screamed "Come here!"

Off we gals went, enjoying great conversation on the way. The Faust sits on S. Seguin Ave. near the historic downtown region of New Braunfels. Out front of this four-story hotel is a bubbling fountain that is part of the front-facing wall. The night desk …

Entire Oklahoma Town Goes Missing, Reports of Strange Lights in the Night Sky

PRESS RELEASE: In a bizarre and frightening turn of events, the residents of Farley, Oklahoma have gone missing overnight. A handful of long-time residents managed to escape the events that seem to have led to the disappearance of thousands in a twenty-four hour period. Dave Forrester, his mother, Lynda Forrester, and Texas native, Maggie Harris, described strange lights in the night sky, unexplained 'alien' abductions, and creatures reeking of sulfur. Officials out of Tulsa have confirmed similar events and missing people, but on a smaller scale relaying that all they have found of the missing so far are bloody clothes left behind where the persons were last seen....
