Truth Stranger than Fiction in Berlin

Police in Berlin are on the hunt for a murderer. In what could be a plot from my Checkpoint series, law enforcement are on the lookout for a man believed to have murdered local show artist, Ewa Kowska.

Kowska was last seen March 20th (courtesy of CCTV video) leaving a liquor store in the company of a man later identified as a Belgian who speaks very good English. On Saturday, the 25th, a fire broke out in Kowska's building. The same man was seen jumping out of a window before the fire broke out. The 41 year-old woman was found by a fire and rescue crew. She'd been stabbed multiple times, and although they tried, they could not resuscitate her.

Building a Case for Murder

So who is this man, and what motivation did he have to commit murder?

"According to the Berliner Zeitung, police believe there might be a link between the murder and the sadomasochism scene in the capital."

Police believe the man also has ties to this scene, and they are still on the lookout.

What would Heinz say?

Heinz says he would immediately begin questioning those nearest and dearest. "Most murders are implemented by someone known to the victim. In this case, we have CCTV footage showing who the victim was last with, where they were, and where they went afterwards. Police will use facial recognition software along with good, old-fashioned investigation techniques to identify this man. Then a net will be cast, and he'll be brought in for questioning."

Detective Birgitta Mahler adds, "People can be very surprising. What we think we know about someone can often times be completely wrong, only what they want us to know. At the moment, there is very little actually known. The real work comes in discovering what we don't know, and that requires patience and the ability to remain objective. With that said, sex is a very strong motivator in the crime of murder."

And so it continues....Crime Never Sleeps in Berlin.
